SIOUX CENTER—Two Sioux Center men were arrested about 11:35 p.m. Friday, March 10, on alcohol-related charges.
The arrest of 24-year-old Bruno Rumualdo Ramos Chilel and 21-year-old Narciso Miguel Morales Ramos stemmed from a report by a clerk at Shell Sioux-Per Center in Sioux Center of an intoxicated individual, Morales Ramos, attempting to purchase alcohol, according to the Sioux Center Police Department.
The clerk reported Morales Ramos was a passenger in a 2007 Ford Fusion in which the driver, Ramos Chilel, also was intoxicated.
When police arrived on the scene, Ramos Chilel drove off at a high rate of speed, leaving Morales Ramos behind.
Police stopped Ramos Chilel on the 400 block of First Avenue Northwest.
Ramos Chilel had bloodshot/watery eyes, impaired balance and the odor of an alcoholic beverage and failed field sobriety tests.
He admitted to consuming alcohol and many open containers of alcohol were observed in the vehicle, according to the incident report.
Morales Ramos also had bloodshot/watery eyes, impaired balance and the odor of an alcoholic beverage.
In talking with law enforcement, he became verbally aggressive. When law enforcement attempted to handcuff him, Morales Ramos became combative and broke a deputy’s watch.
Ramos Chilel was charged with first-offense operating while under the influence, possession of an open container of alcohol as a driver, speeding and no valid driver’s license.
Morales Ramos was charged with public intoxication, interference with official acts and possession of an open container of alcohol as a passenger.
He pleaded guilty March 11 in Sioux County District Court in Orange City to the three charges and ordered to pay $470 in fines, $70.50 in surcharges and $175 in court-related costs.
