As TV show Ted Lasso returns for a third season on Apple TV+ on March 15, 2023, some North Texas fans might be inspired to buy the new Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams flavor Biscuits with the Boss as a celebratory dessert. But this shortbread-based ice cream — buttery and salty, and studded with “biscuits” — might be tough to find in Dallas-Fort Worth this week.
On March 14, 2023, the night before Ted Lasso’s Season 3 return, some Jeni’s shops were sold out of pints of Biscuits with the Boss. They’ve seen a run on that flavor after the Ted Lasso-Jeni’s collaboration was announced on March 2.
Biscuits with the Boss is still available by the scoop at Jeni’s on March 15 in Dallas, and that’s the best place to find it, says a rep from the company. It’s the pints — sold at Central Market, Foxtrot Market and at Jeni’s three stores in Dallas — that are harder to find.
Pints are sold out online and won’t be restocked. Stores in Texas will get another shipment of pints today, and they’re expected to sell quickly.
But, in the words of Ted Lasso, “Believe.” Or maybe call ahead.
“Once it’s sold out, it’s sold out,” the Jeni’s rep says.
The name Biscuits with the Boss refers to the meetings main character Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) set with standoffish divorcee Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham). Lasso is an overly optimistic American football coach hired to run Welton’s fledgling English soccer team. Lasso’s happy-go-lucky attitude stole the hearts of TV watchers all over the world — and of his boss. Cookies had something to do with it.
We won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t watched yet. But you should.
Jeni’s, which originated in Ohio, is relatively new to Dallas. “Fans gush about Ohio-based Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in the same way that Texans go wild for Franklin Barbecue,” we wrote in late 2020. “They wait in line for it, too.” The first one opened in Dallas’ Deep Ellum in February 2021 and two more have followed, in Addison and Lowest Greenville.
A Jeni’s spokesperson says the response to the shortbread ice cream has been “amazing.” It’s their biggest collaboration since Jeni’s partnered with Dolly Parton to release Strawberry Pretzel Pie ice cream in 2021 and 2022.
For those who come up empty on pints of Biscuits with the Boss, by-the-scoop is a fine option. A few scoops in a bowl will transport home and into the freezer just fine — it worked for me. Plus, the experience of walking into a Jeni’s shop comes with a folksy Ted Lasso moment: The smell of sugar and fresh waffle cones hits you in the face like a poof of cotton candy.
Or, savvy bakers can commemorate the Season 3 debut by trying to make shortbread cookies at home. The Kitchn claims to have the official recipe.
Ted Lasso’s third season drops March 15, 2023 on Apple TV+. The 12 episodes in Season 3 will be released each Wednesday.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has three shops in Dallas: in Deep Ellum at 2649 Main St.; on Lowest Greenville at 2012 Greenville Ave.; and in Addison at 5290 Belt Line Road. Jeni’s is also sold at some grocery stores and convenience stores, though Biscuits with the Boss isn’t available at all of them. Find a Jeni’s store locator here.
